TALK2CARE GIVES A VOICE TO PATIENTS IN THE INTENSIVE UNIT
TALK2CARE is an app developed with a focus on bringing back the dialogue between patient, relatives and staff. As a patient with a tube in his throat and severely impaired – also cognitively – it is difficult to communicate with his surroundings. But the need to feel heard and be in dialogue with relatives, nurses and doctors is still great.
With TALK2CARE, patients can now express their wishes and needs – without having to wait for nurses. By pressing easily recognizable pictograms, patients can express needs such as thirst, pain and ask critical questions.
WHAT DO USERS SAY ABOUT TALK2CARE?
"For me, TALK2CARE was a lifeline to get what I wanted to say. I could talk better about my problem, whether it was pain or if I was lacking sleep, it was really good – and the staff could understand what I wanted."
Patient, orally intubated, 52 year old woman with pneumonia
"One of the worst things patients experience is actually not being able to say anything while they are critically ill. One of the reasons we have developed a communication app is that it allows patients to become more involved in their own care and treatment."
Intensive care nurse, OUH,
Eva Lærkner
"Patients who are kept awake spend less time on a ventilator, spend less time in the intensive care unit, and are also discharged from the hospital faster."
Ylilääkäri, Thomas Strøm
